The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) is a non-profit, non-political, volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children. The ladies of the Old Kent Chapter invite you to come to one of their meetings, which are held on the second Thursday of the month, from September to May, except January.
Our chapter has been involved in marking several special places in Kent County. In addition to recognizing the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws Award to George Washington (see the photo above), we have acknowledged the importance of the Kent County Free School, which later became Washington College, with a DAR marker; the "Chestertown Tea Party"; and recently, we have marked the home of Thomas Smyth, Sr., a member of the Maryland Council of Safety 1775-1776, Commissary of Troops Kent County 1777, and owner of the shipyard that built the Maryland Navy Galley "Chester" that was launched in 1777.
